Facilities and Maintenance Technician

Job Summary:

Aa a maintenance technician you will need to be flexible, patient, and creative.  This position is responsible for the repair and upkeep of LYFS facilities. Responsibilities include both custodial and maintenance tasks.  Part of this role is to recognize when a task requires outside support or resources, such as an electrician, plumber, HVAC mechanic, or another specialized technician.   This work will be performed in a unique environment that prioritizes sensitivity to those struggling with mental health and behavioral challenges.

Essential Duties:

  • Perform routine maintenance around the building such as fixing structural damage, for example, window, door, or wall repair.
  • Repairing broken or leaking plumbing to avoid water damage and restore full use of fixtures.
  • Maintaining or assisting with building HVAC equipment to keep climate control functioning properly.
  • Applying preventative measures to the building to reduce the risk of future problems.
  • Repair potential safety hazards to ensure safe buildings and grounds.
  • Perform interior and exterior preventative and routine maintenance on LYFS facilities, to ensure facilities remain in good working order. This includes painting, repairing damage, and completing necessary supporting documentation.
  • Perform periodic custodial tasks as assigned.
  • Perform seasonal tasks such as snow and ice removal from walkways, and salt spreading.
  • Perform deep cleaning tasks such as refinishing tile floors, refinishing wood floors, high cleaning from a ladder or man lift, washing furniture, and deep cleaning carpet.
  • Perform as-needed custodial tasks such as graffiti removal, replacing light bulbs and ceiling tiles, unclogging plumbing fixtures, painting, minor repairs on custodial equipment, and minor maintenance and repair of building furniture and equipment.
  • Assist with agency events such as open houses, fund raisers, etc. This may include arranging and removal of decorations, tables, chairs, etc. to prepare facilities for events such as banquets and meetings.
  • Assist with moving furniture, equipment, and supplies, either manually or by using hand trucks.
  • Maintain work areas in a clean, safe, and sanitary manner and ensure all work is performed in accordance with OSHA. Communicate immediately any unsafe working conditions, broken equipment, or any issue requiring the submission of a work order.
  • Assist in maintaining the inventory of custodial supplies, tools, and materials for use in the facility.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • An associate degree in associated field is preferred but High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent will be considered.
  • A license or certificate in an associated trade is preferred, but not required.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in a related field, or an equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved.
  • Experience and fluency with Microsoft Office products, and comfort with learning new technology as required.
  • Current 30-hour Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA), or ability to complete the training within 6 months of entering the role.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, students, and the public.
  • Valid and safe driving record and a registered and insured vehicle.
  • Must successfully complete all applicable background checks and maintain eligibility.

Special Position Requirements:

  • Must be able to read, interpret and follow written instructions for the use of a variety of cleaning materials, chemicals, paints, solvents, while performing job duties.
  • Must be able to work independently, and effectively prioritize duties, with minimal supervision.
  • This position may also include some direct supervisory responsibilities, as assigned.

Work/Physical Requirements:

  • Able to walk, sit, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, twist, reach above shoulders, crouch, or crawl for varying periods of time.
  • Able to access elevated workspaces via ladders and lifts.
  • The employee must regularly lift and / or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and / or move over 50 pounds.
  • Capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
